Tampere:
Tampere is in the south of Finland, just 160 kilometers away from Helsinki. The city is surrounded by lakes and the Tammerkoski rapids. Actually it is located on an isthmus between lakes Näsijärvi and Pyhäjärvi, which you can see from the hill of Pyynikki, near the center of the city. The town was founded in 1779 by Swedish king Gustav the III and the forces of the Tammerkoski rapids were used to produce energy for textile factories so Tampere became an industrial and very important city in Finland.
Among the interesting buildings in Tampere are The Old Church, a beautiful wooden building located at the Central Square, Alexander church, the Orthodox church, and the remains of some factories all made of red bricks and most of them turned into leisure centers, restaurants, etc.
